The laser hits the skin in a pixilated pattern, like the dots on a Lichtenstein painting. The skin immediately tightens as a selected percentage of the treated surface is vaporized, the untreated skin immediately begins the healing process, whereby new collagen formation is stimulated for the following 6 to 8 months.

In the great majority of patients, only a single treatment takes years off of a patient’s appearance. Some patients request a second treatment which gives even better results. For acne and surgical scar patients 2 to 3 treatments may be necessary.

During the recovery there is no pain. Your specialist will recommend a product to assist with the recovery.

Patients need at least 5 to 7 days before going out in public. At 7 days, patients are red, like a day at the beach without sun block, but can cover up with mineral make up or tinted sun block for men.

For both acne and wrinkles, it's recommended to space out sessions four weeks apart. For photo damage, you space out sessions six to eight weeks apart.

It is not uncommon to have an acne flare after Fraxel® Laser and there is also appropriate treatment to resolve it. Typically, you will start to notice the difference within a day after your third treatment. However, some photographs before and after the treatments would be helpful to determine the results.

Both treatments deliver noticeable improvement in skin tone and texture. However, because microneedling does not penetrate the deep layers of the skin, it is better suited to mild skin problems, and the results are typically less dramatic than Fraxel.
